Hi There,
found your blog through the 31 day blog challenge. Cute blog, keep up the good work! (By the way, my dog loves to eat socks as well!)

As for spaying, we've had both our female dogs spayed, with no behavioral changes resulting.

Be aware, there's a much greater risk for health problems such as uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, infections, and other problems when dogs aren't spayed.

In fact, my best friend's dog just had to have a costly operation to remove an infected uterus because she was never spayed. Since she's an older dog (over 10) doing the surgery was much more risky than it would have been to just spay her a decade ago. Luckily, the dog is doing fine now, but had to endure quite a bit of pain until they figured out what the problem was.

Also, if you have no intention of breeding, I see no reason not to spay. There are way too many unwanted pets right now. Female dogs in heat attract male dogs, and accidents do happen.

Talk to your vet if you have questions, she/he should be able to tell you the benefits and advantages (and disadvantages) to spaying.

cheers,

Mary H.

I was talking to someone at work today who said that as dogs age their hormones (if not spayed) become increasingly harder to deal with. Dogs will fight to get out of the house to mate and may also be in pain at times.
